Our always-on culture has frayed our nervous systems.
Now we're trapped in urgency cycles that perpetuate it and normalise stress.

People who are under constant pressure push harder and connect less. Teams adapt to this urgency, treating rest as unsafe leading our social networks and organisations to normalise overwork and feed the same survival mode they triggered.  This cycle has gone on too long - too many of us have become trapped in this overwhelm.

THE BOOK

Burnout: How to Manage Your Nervous System Before It Manages You (UK edition) The Trauma of Burnout (US edition)

What if your struggle to rest, focus or recharge isn’t a flaw — but a nervous-system pattern you can change?

  • For leaders & HR: recognise hidden burnout in high performers

  • For professionals: break the cycle of overdrive and shutdown

  • For therapists: integrate nervous-system-informed tools into practice

"There is only one book on burnout that I will be recommending - this one.  We need one in every office and every staff room around the world"

Dr Julie Smith,
Clinical Psychologist & Sunday Times best selling author of
Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before

You’re smart, capable, and outwardly holding it all together - but inside, things feel increasingly unsustainable.

WHY I DO THIS WORK

My mission is to reshape how we understand stress, resilience, and emotional overload - not as a personal failing but with compassion and with an understanding of what has happened to get to this point.

That’s why, alongside my writing and speaking, I founded Plum Psychology - a specialist service supporting busy professionals with trauma-informed therapy and intensive therapy programs. The clinical insights gained from this work shape everything I teach to leaders, wellbeing teams and organisations.

Whether I’m supporting individuals through deep therapeutic work, consulting with wellbeing leads, or challenging burnout culture on public platforms, I always bring

Real clinical insight.  Real tools.  Real-world applications.
