Dr Melissa Barry
Dr. Melissa Barry is a Clinical Psychologist specialising in addressing anxiety, trauma, and self-criticism. With training in Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), she adopts an integrative and evidence-based approach to therapy.
Dr. Barry’s expertise lies in understanding how early relationships shape later-life emotional patterns, self-beliefs, and interpersonal dynamics. Many of the adults she works with find themselves caught in recurring relational difficulties, struggling with self-doubt, perfectionism, or deep-seated fears of failure and rejection. She helps clients uncover and shift these ingrained patterns, drawing on a deep understanding of attachment, developmental psychology, and neurobiological responses to early experiences.

In addition, her background in assessing and identifying neurodiversity (including Autism and ADHD) provides a unique skill set for adults navigating therapy. Many individuals come to therapy unaware that neurodivergent traits—such as sensory sensitivity, executive functioning challenges, or differences in emotional processing—may be contributing to their struggles with anxiety, burnout, or relationships. Dr. Barry is skilled at recognising these underlying patterns and integrating this understanding into therapy, allowing for more tailored and effective interventions.
With experience working in specialist NHS services, including second-opinion assessments for complex neurodevelopmental conditions, as well as offering psychological support in school and community settings, Dr. Barry brings a comprehensive understanding of trauma, attachment, and neurodiversity to her work.
Dr. Barry offers both ongoing therapy and intensive sessions, designed for those seeking deeper work on longstanding issues in a more focused timeframe. Intensive sessions are particularly effective for individuals dealing with unresolved trauma, phobias, or chronic patterns of self-criticism and avoidance.
Her approach is ideal for those looking for a knowledgeable and experienced clinician who understands the intricate psychological, relational, and neurological factors that shape well-being. Sessions are structured to help clients achieve meaningful and lasting change, drawing on Dr. Barry’s expertise and compassionate approach.
